I have some news, this is my last post ever on Blogger. Not that I dont like Blogger it just I want to jump over to Wordpress (which in my opinion is far superior). I must admit havent been using Blogger since Runcast.TV started and its not because I dont want to blog as I still want to maintain my own personal space. I want to change because I have learnt so much in the last few months and Wordpress is the platform for me now that I am a little bit more tech savvy.

Anyhow .....I have chosen to make this post a special sign off post as I have been hit in a game of virtual tag by my friends and fellow Runcast.Tv runner Sukhjit  (check her blog its awesome) in a apparent online phenomenon.  Now I must point out that I avoid chain type stuff, its one of the main reasons I shy away from Facebook. But as I have the upmost respect for the her and she tagged me I have paid attention and decided that infact is the motivation  to continue the chain. Asking the question..."Who else do I hold with high regard?"  I've used this as my benchmark to continue the chain and acytually struggled to keep it to seven in a bid to make a couple of golden links :-)

Ok so it works like this, when you get tagged, you’re supposed to share 7 things about yourself that people don’t know. With Social Media promoting transparency I have found it really hard to find 7 facts I havent already shared but I think, ive dug up some quite big but yet undisclosed facts. So here goes my 7:

  1. Iam the eldest of two Monepenny children and my younger sister is called Vicky. I love her to bits because she is totally Nuts and was so shocked when she joined a British Law enforcement agency know as the Police ( I always asumed she would have gone into TV). She can be found on Runcast.TV but has yet to post anything and this year she is training for her first half marathon in October. My Father is a retired  Police officer and my Mum is a Teacher. I chose to rebel and went into Civil Engineering ( Later findig out that my grandfather was a civil engineer and it this is something that my mum was very proud of -doh).
  2. My music taste was shaped after visiting IBIZA as a 11 year old, I became a big fan of 80s and 90s Techno music from the USA, cities like Detroit,New York and Chicago where the Musical meccas that I dreamed of visiting. When I was 12 I got my first Skateboard and soon after  added San Francisco was to the list. By the age of 15 I was spending most of my time dreaming that I would be as good as Geoff Rowley who i spent most weekends learning from. Geoff went on to become one of the best skateboarders of our generation and still is a Signature rider for VANS skate shoes. I went on to finnish my A-Levels and Study Civil Engineering at University and gave up skateboarding but took up DJing as a sutiable substitute:-) (My favorite Dj and producerof all time is Ritchie Hawtin a.k.aPlastikman).
  3. When I was young I was the forth best Runner in my county... Gavin Marsden was the best, Mark Lionnett was second best and Mark B (my oldest friend) was third, I sometimes used to beat Mark B (occasionally) but i never beat the other two. :-(
  4. My Great Grandpa was Italian and I blame him for my love of Pasta, Pizza and Ice Cream (I just love ittalian food). I have no Indian relatives so i cant blame anyone for why I love Indian food but curry is the best food ever.
  5. The weirdest fact i can think of is....I have Brown hair and blue eyes and when I grow a beard it grows Ginger :-S.
  6. I love Science Fiction and Philip K Dick is my favorite author ever. Everything he ever wrote is brilliant and with out him we wouldn't have movies like The Matrix, Blade Runner, Total Recall and Wall-E. I blame him fully for my obsession with Social Media and the root of my mania which is basedon my mantra that "the future is already amongst us".
  7. Last but not least and definately the most important thing that I am guilty of not telling the world enough is that I love my girlfriend of 13 years Emma. My job takes me all over the world (literally) to the ends of the earth, but my dream is to find work on my doorstep and be in a position to make Emma my wife... This is my ultimate motivation and drives everything i do :-) Here is a recent picture of Emma taken at Christmas dinner with Megan who is the coolest kid you will ever meet and and also Emmas niece, and I would also class her as my neice also :-)

Part two of this game, is that I get to tag 7 other people and ask them to share 7 things…. like i said at the start I’m not usually one to do this type of thing but in this case, I agree with Sukhjit and think it’s actually a great way to get to know people. So now that I’ve shared my 7 things, I now tag these 7 friends to do the same:

Barb from kelownagurl.blogspot.com

Matt from rundiggerrun.blogspot.com

Becky from chicklovestorun.blogspot.com

Halesb from okirunner.blogspot.com

Fredrik from fredrikbroman.com

Kristina from www.runninglikeabreeze.blogspot.com

Sue from cafelewuillemet.blogspot.com/

BTW Here are the rules of the game as copied from Sukhjits blog:

  • Link your original tagger(s), and list these rules on your blog.
  • Share seven facts about yourself in the post - some random, some weird.
  • Tag seven people at the end of your post by leaving their names and the links to their blogs.
  • Let them know they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment on their blogs and/or Twitter.

March of RuncastTV

Just realized that I have been so busy that I haven't ever blogged about RuncastTV.. promise to make a start tomorrow...tonight I want to write a short statement about being on "The Runners Roundtable" again I will do a proper write up tommorow.

First I just want to thank Steve, Toni, Nik and Dan for making me feel very welcome, it was an incredible thrill to be on the show and also thanks to all that took the time to listen and didnt switch off half way.

Thats all I really wanted to say tonight but I would just like to add that I spoke at one stage about the future of RuncastTV and my ideas for an iPhone/mobile phone app. If you heard this then you may be interested in this video and that I have decided that my next challenge is to make this Runner app "fantasy" a reality :-)

This video shows that it can be done and I have already worked out how this app works - if you like games then think First Person Shooter...but replace shooter with GPS enabled Runner.

March of the News

This post is two weeks late but I have finally managed to stop and write this up.

On the the 10th of October I was lucky enough to get down to London to catch the back end of the FOWA event at Excel and see the live recording of my favorite video Podcast "Diggnation". The video clip at the top of this post is not the live recording of Diggnation it is instead a Keynote speech by Kevin Rose on "the future of the News".

I posted this video because it shows Kevin in a different light to the bloke sat on the coach next to Alex. Diggnation is cool because it offers a weekly escape into the web in an hour long show. However it really offers nothing in the way of substance apart from the odd Mac rumor or web tip and is seen by many as a waste of time. Kevin and Alex come across as very ignorant to many topics and Kevin quite often displays a level of arrogance that is quite off-puting as he sails the sea of Diggs in his over inflated ego.

At the end of the FOWA after-show party, I actualy got to spend sometime in his company anddiscovered that hes actually very cool and nothing like the person I expected. The impression I had previously formed was totally wrong, and that goes for all the Revison 3 guys I met that night.

For the best part of the night I actually didnt even bother to try to speak to any of them, the venue was rammed. Instead I got to spend a quality hour in the company of Blanie Cook (Twitter) and other cool people. It actually wasn't until I was outside the FOX club at the end of the night, making my way back to the hotel that I got chatting to a guy who turned out to be Dave Prager (Revison 3). I had never seen Daves face, even though I knew his name and found it nuts that we were chatting totally by accident , however that was nothing compared to how crazy it was  as we walked around the corner to see Kevin waiting for Dave.

When I say waiting he was actually stood with some young girl who I mistook for his girlfriend ( he hasn't got a girlfriend) and it turns out it was a groupie making a pass at him. The problem was, because I thought it was his girlfriend I thought nothing of just walked over and said hi. It was at this point (in retrospect) that I conclude that Kevin Rose is a cool guy because he actually stopped to talk to me and as a concequience the girl walked off into the night (probably in a strop).  If he had been an ego-maniac as previously thought he would ignored me for his prize, but he didnt and we started to chat about skate boarding and stuff- totaly random.

Now at this stage I did not know what had just happened  and continued chatting and then other people started to arrive Hippy Glen and some other guy who proceeded to invite me to a party.  Problem was I had had a few too many beers by this stage and didnt quite catch the full situation, before I knew it we were wondering around the docklands trying to find this party, me and the Revison 3 guys.  As we walked and I told Glen how small he was , and made chit chat I started to realised several disturbing things:

  • These were not my friends! Even thought I recognized them!
  • I was drunk!
  • Kevin was telling the other Diggnation boys how amazing the girl was and then told them how I had scared her off!
  • I HAD scared of the girl, because I think she took kevin speaking to me as a sign that he wasn't interested in her...but by the way he was talking I think he was!
  • I had just insulted Glen by telling him he was smaller in real life...I thought I was being cheeky but he looked upset!
  • I had been invited to a party by a complete stranger who was no where to be seen!
  • Were they still going to the party!
  • I had nothing to say to anyone!
  • We were walking in circles ...were they trying to loose me... Probably!
It was at this point that a horrible feeling of paranoia came over me and I decided to say good bye. I went back to my hotel and passed out!

And that was that...the night may  have gone on to be so much fun, - Yeah right but in retrospect I needed my own friends for that not an adopted family. The Revison 3 guys were all very cool and I think a little taken back bye our (Brits) enthusiasim towards them. The next day I caught a Twitter post from @dlprager inviting anyone in the area out for beers at some pub in London, so I guess their hospitality was for real.

I guess then the Revison3 guys are slightly misunderstood, they are an adopted family and like most families slightly dysfunctional. Only today it was announced that certain shows are being axed on the network (Sad times). It may seem that they own the internet because thats the reality we choose to exist within. The truth however is they don, its a house of cards and they are just as vunerable as any of us and as the economy shrinks they will become even more dependent on the support of their community. I notice Kevin is now responding to peoples Tweets even thought he hasn't excepted my apology (but he did let me know that his favorite Skateboarder was Rodney Muller- (Props)). So I think we will start to see a more human side to them, a side that was always been there but has maybe been slightly hidden. If they want to be the future of News ...they need to start listening!

{ Which they do... but may be a little bit more! - Twitters one thing but I am actually making direct reference to Kevins  smash and grab approach to Seesmic - check the link www.seesmic.com  - one very good post- 15 or so well presented responses but no follow up from Kevin }

End of the March for Banks

March of the Honest Man!

I have hundreds of things to post, so much seems to be happening at the moment." NO BAILOUT", "Kevin got robbed", "my trip to Bristol", "The passing of someone cool on a social network", "The The Commandments of Twitter" and "Runcasts". These are all potential topics but instead I have chosen to post another Video. I have a million things to blog and it seems like I havent got the time to digest and submit.

I have instead decided to post another video clip from You Tube. If you decide to watch this please stick with it, I am not a fan of Di Vitio and I have know Idea who the other guy is but I trusted the source. Watched it and it was awesome...I totally understand exactly its point.I must send  thanks to @frebro, my pal from Twitter.  All I ask is that if anyone does watch this and likes it follow him and and a cool thing would be to tweet the word  "props" to @frebro.

MARCH OF THE VIDEOBLOG or Vlog, Vilog or Vidog!

I am going to be very lazy and post a clip from my second favorite new website called Seesmic. I see so much potential with Seesmic  therefore I have decided to post this as a teaser to tempt people onto the site for to view the spectacle for themselves. The video clip describes an event taking place on Thursday, I have no idea what will happen but I think this is a example of the cool types of things that are going on at the website.

Check out the clip and if your not shy then sign up, its the next step on the march of our social evolution.
